Abstract: The work on this paper focused on the solutions to achieve spectrum efficiency and reducing power consumption in the base station by utilizing cognitive radio method and cooperative  radio base station, especially Femtocell Base Station. In addition, this study also performed mathematical analysis to determine the influence of parameters such as bandwidth, allocated spectrum, gain, and the distance of User Equipment from the Base Station. Those parameters were compared to the required power consumption  to meet user’s quality of service so that they can be used as a reference in determining the alternative energy saving models  to achieve energy efficiency at the base station. The results showed that the allocated spectrum and bandwidth were linear to the power consumption. The higher spectrum and bandwidth used, the higher energy consumed. Based on the results, we recommended to used lower frequency spectrum e.g., 1800 Hz for the energy saving model.
